The Economics Students’ Association is now hiring Director and Committee positions! As the academic union and social hub for all students who study economics at the University of Toronto, taking on a leadership role in the ESA is a perfect way to further engage in our school’s economics community, hone your leadership and teamwork skills, and work with our wonderfully dedicated and enthusiastic executive team.

Through ESA, you’ll make valuable connections and develop lasting friendships. You’ll have the opportunity to enhance your knowledge and put your existing knowledge on display. You’ll also get the timely support that you need from your executive team. On top of it, you’ll receive acknowledgement of your extracurricular involvement on your co-curricular record (CCR).

If you would like to take advantage of this incredible opportunity to join the ESA executive team, applications will be accepted until September 15th at 11:59pm at the latest. However, interviews will be done on a rolling basis as applications come in.

the positions

PRESIDENTIAL TEAM - Saarah Sheikh

The presidential team is hiring for 2 positions:

  • Secretary
  • Mentorship Coordinator

 

Secretary (Time Commitment: 2 hours/week)

What will you do?

  • Handle all administrative matters of the ESA.
  • Take detailed meeting minutes at all executive meetings.
  • Take charge of maintaining the ESA’s internal agenda and calendar.

What will you get out of it?
Gain first-hand experience on running a student group with moderate time commitment.

Necessary Skills:
Fast typer and proficiency with emails, Dropbox, Google Drive, and Doodle.
 

Mentorship Program Coordinator (Time Commitment: 3 hours/week)

What will you do?

  • Help with the smooth-running of the mentorship program.

What will you get out of it?
Exposure to all aspects of a student mentorship program including logistical, marketing, and program management.

Necessary Skills:
Strong organizational skills and a commitment to building a strong student community among lower and upper year economics students.

 

EVENTS TEAM - Yolanda Yang

The events team is hiring for 2 positions:

  • Event Coordinator (2 available positions)

 

Event Coordinators (Time Commitment: sporadic, based on timing of events)

What will you do?

  • Work closely with VP of Events to ensure the smooth running of all events (social, professional, academic, small-scale, large-scale).
  • Duties include room booking, catering and honoraria decision-making, event set-up and cleanup.

What will you get out of it?
Gain strong event management skills through exposure to a large student body, faculty, and industry professionals.

Necessary skills:
Have a flexible schedule during the school year to be present at all events.
Fast problem solving skills as well as attention to detail.

 

MARKETING TEAM - MICHAEL XU

The marketing team is hiring for 5 positions:

  • Promotional Director
  • Social Media Representative
  • Creative Director
  • Web Developer
  • Photographer

 

Promotional Director (Time Commitment: 2 hours/week)

What will you do?

  • Promote events and initiatives across all social media outlets (twitter, facebook, instagram).
  • Be in charge of all ESA social media (facebook, twitter, and instagram) on an ongoing basis.
  • Update club content, such as event descriptions, when appropriate.


What will you get out of it?
Become a member of ESA’s marketing team, gaining experience in developing and executive marketing strategies. Gain a unique experience involving and developing ESA’s communications strategy within the Economics community at the University of Toronto.

Necessary Skills:
Previous use of social media sites mentioned above.

 

Social Media Representative (Time Commitment: 2 hours/week)

What will you do?

  • Post economics related news articles on Facebook page weekly


What will you get out of it?
Become a member of ESA’s marketing team, gaining experience in developing and executive marketing strategies. Gain economics knowledge beyond lecture level through the most updated news.

Necessary Skills:
Use of social media sites and basic economics knowledge.

 

Creative Director (Time Commitment: 3 hours/week)

What will you do?

  • Design and maintain all promotional material and the ESA brand presence.


What will you get out of it?
Become a member of ESA’s marketing team, gain experience in developing and executing marketing strategies; refine your graphic design skills and have your creative work seen by over 1000 students.

Necessary Skills:
Photoshop and/or InDesign skills. HTML skills considered an asset.

Web Developer(Time Commitment: 3 hours/week)

  • Update and maintain information on ESA’s main point of contact with students, our website: http://www.esauoft.ca.


What will you get out of it?
Become a member of ESA’s marketing team, gaining experience in developing and executive marketing strategies. Refine your web development skills and have your creative work seen by over 1000 students.

Necessary Skills:
Web programming skills; HTML specifically considered to be an asset.



Photographer (Time Commitment: sporadic, based on timing of events)

What will you do?

  • Capture moments at all ESA events.


What will you get out of it?
Become a member of ESA’s marketing team, gaining experience in developing and executive marketing strategies. Refine your photography skills and have your creative work seen by over 1000 students.

Necessary Skills:
High-quality camera, as well as a previous portfolio of work.

 

OUTREACH TEAM - Akil Abrar Chowdhury

The outreach time is hiring for 1 position:

  • Director of Outreach

 

Director of Outreach (Time Commitment: 2 hours/week)

What will you do?

  • Response directly to all emails and messages received by ESA.
  • Act as the direct point of contact for ESA with its members and stakeholders.
  • Uphold a strong ESA brand and reputation through professional manners.


What will you get out of it?
Develop strong professional communication skills.

Necessary Skills:
A firm grasp of students needs and wants. Strong inter-personal and communication skills. Previous communication experience considered an asset.
