ELECTED POSITIONS

President

Responsibilities

  • Manage executive team and Presidential team

  • Meet weekly with executive team to plan all ESA events and initiatives

  • Co-ordinate with the Presidential committee to make sure each team member is meeting their goals (Presidential committee positions include Mentorship Coordinator and Secretary)

  • Are main contact with Economics department, as well as ASSU

Time Commitment: Varies, usually 2-3 hours a week on a regular week

VP EVENTS

Responsibilities

  • Plan and organize all of ESA’s events

  • Support events held by the department and ESA’s other programs

  • Manage and direct the Events Committee

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours/week

VP EVENTS

Responsibilities

  • Plan and organize all of ESA’s events

  • Support events held by the department and ESA’s other programs

  • Manage and direct the Events Committee

Examples of Tasks

  • Develop a events schedule at the beginning of each semester containing all deadlines for Events Committee members and event dates

  • Book rooms through the office of Academic and Campus Events or the Economics department

  • Set up before events, order and pick up food and drinks

  • Plan and organize the ESA’s annual graduate studies fair

  • Regularly contact the Events Committee members to follow up on their responsibilities, and ensure that you are available to address any of their questions or concerns

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours/week

VP Marketing

Responsibilities

  • Administer all ESA promotions and advertising on the ESA website and 3 social media accounts

  • Manage the creation, coordination, and distribution of all promotional materials

  • Prepare weekly newsletters to publicizing upcoming event information, as well as opportunities and resources available through the Economics department

  • Manage and direct the Marketing Committee

Examples of Tasks

  • Develop a marketing schedule at the beginning of each semester containing all deadlines for Marketing Committee members and event announcement dates

  • Use Mailchimp to create a weekly newsletter after synthesizing information on upcoming news/opportunities for students as advertised by the Economics Department’s weekly update

  • Send a reminder email the day before an event to all students who registered, and personally contact all students who clicked “Going” on a Facebook event page

  • Regularly contact the Marketing Committee members to follow up on their responsibilities, and ensure that you are available to address any of their questions or concerns

  • Invite discussion among ESA students about significant events in the news by writing a post on social media

Time Commitment: 3-4 hours/week

VP OUTREACH

Responsibilities

  • Connect with professors and all undergraduate Economics student studying in the department

  • Connect with industry professionals and experts in the field of economics

  • Act as a liaison between the Economics department and the students

  • Answer all questions/inquiries of students through email or in person

  • Manage and coordinate the Outreach Committee

  • Help with promotion of events to a certain degree

Examples of Tasks

  • Develop an outreach schedule at the beginning of fall/winter session containing all deadlines for the Outreach Committee members

  • Work closely with the Outreach Committee members for organizing events like Coffee with the Profs

  • Send early reminders to professors about the upcoming event

  • Regularly contact the Outreach Committee members to follow up on their responsibilities, and ensure that you are available to address any of their concerns or questions

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours/week

VP FINANCE

Responsibilities

  • Create a strategic budget that promotes and fosters ESA’s goals

  • Keep track of spending and receipts for bi-annual budget reconciliation

  • Be in touch with ASSU for budgetary needs

Examples of Tasks

  • Create a budget proposal for the team’s plan and make necessary adjustments if need be

  • Fill-in the budget request to receive ASSU funding

  • Create a spreadsheet to keep track of granted funds and expenditures for easier reconciliation

  • Collect and safe keep all the receipts to be submitted to ASSU

  • Continuously update and record any financial matters on the spreadsheet

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours/week
